New Store - Go Outdoors Chesterfield

Go Outdoors is probably the most recognisable outdoor store in the country - and on the 23rd March, "Go" came to Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

We were invited along for a sneak preview before the opening day to discover what the store has to offer...
The first impression is the sheer size of the store.  Forget pushing your way through crowded racks of gear to find what you want... here there is space to breath, with a massive two stories of outdoor gear - all spread out with room to get items off the displays to have a look at them properly.

The first section is the outdoor clothing - with men's on the left and women's & children's on the right.

The massive size of the store means that pretty much every line Go Outdoors stocks on its' website is actually available in the Chesterfield store - including an impressive range of children's clothing too.

Delve further in and the backpacks are all out to see.  This innovative way of displaying backpacks means you can see them all together and be able to take them off the display to examine them further.  And if you can't reach some of the top ones, just call over a helpful member of staff.
One of the great advantages a physical store has over an online one is when you come to buy walking boots.
The Chesterfield store has a massive selection - and has trained assistants who can help you get the right boot for both your feet and what you want to be doing with them.

Whether you want a Berghaus, Merrel, Hi-Tec or one of the Go Outdoors exclusive brands, there's a fantastic selection to choose from.
As our presenter and producer Andrew White is an Ordnance Survey #GetOutside Champion for 2018/9, he was particularly pleased to see a full range of OS Explorer maps available.
The orange-topped Explorer maps are the best for walking and each now come with a download for the same area on the OS Maps app.
The rest of the ground floor is taken up with camping accessories - such as sleeping bags and power supplies, as well as significant climbing, fishing, and equestrian departments too.

Go Outdoors are a Retailer of Recommended Expedition Kit for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award - and a display on near the stairs shows how you can kit up for the awards without having to spend an awful lot...
Climb the stairs to the upper story, and the highlight here is the massive tent display.  You'll find one of every example of tent the store stocks pitched and available for you to examine - from the smallest and lightest backpacking tent to the largest tent suitable for a family or group.

After all, how are you going to make sure you know which would be the best if you don't see them pitched?
The store has a big feature on a tent we've selected as one of our Top 5 Family Tents - the Airgo Solus Horizon 4.

Available at the moment with a substantial discount, it's a great buy.

The upper story also has the extensive cycling range - with bikes ranging from £100 to upto a £1000... along with a full range of accessories and cycling clothing too.

Fancy a life on the water?  Then the upper story can also kit you out with a kayak too.
Go Outdoors Chesterfield is located in The Spires Retail Park, just to the south of Chesterfield town centre - and only 6 miles from junction 29 of the M1.

Use the Google Map to get directions from where you are coming from - the postcode is S40 2WG.
