Route Directions

  • Start at Limefitt Park, and head towards the The Haybarn pub.  Walk around the back of the pub, walk through the gate and head up the path, leaving Limefitt Park on the left.

  • Go through the second gate, and at the junction of the paths, turn right and head southwards towards Windermere.

  • After another gate, and at another junction of paths, turn left in north-east direction.

  • Along this path, take time to soak in the views on the left side across the Troutbeck valley.

  • At the next junction of paths, turn right to continue the zigzag pattern of the walk.

  • Head southwards again with Windermere in the background, until there’s a ladder stile on the left.

  • Traverse the stile and head up Sour Howes either using a zigzag pattern, or a more steep but direct route to the top.

  • Once the view has been admired, head northwards – the opposite direction to Windermere below, and follow the fence around the side of Sallows.

  • Soon, a gate with a stile in it offers the way to climb Sallows – bagging 2 Wainwrights on this walk.

  • Follow the fence down to Garburn Nook, and take a left to follow the Garburn Track downwards.

  • Then, retrace the path back down to Limefitt Park.
