Route Directions

  • The walk starts at Haworth railway station on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, so you’re best arriving to Haworth by train.  If you’re travelling to Haworth on the bus, the 69 from Bradford stops at “Station Road stop R” just past Haworth station.

  • Exit Haworth station, and turn right, to walk up the raised walkway which eventually crosses the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway via a bridge.

  • After reaching the far side, look for the stone built houses in front of you and the direction the green “Worth Way” footpath sign is pointing below them.  It’s a right, but not the first right, as that’s the driveway to a house.

  • This is Mill Hill – walk along it, turning left at the end – and then right past The Dairy, following the Worth Way” signs.

  • Go through the kissing gate next, and keep to a straight on line across the field.  The obvious path in the field turns to the right slightly in the middle of the field and eventually comes out on an access road called Greenfield.

  • Walk to the junction with Mytholmes Lane, and turn right, following the direction of the green sign (which now mentions The Railway Children walk too).

  • Keep on the right side pavement of Mytholmes Lane, and you’ll cross junctions for The Hayfields and Ebor Lane, before Mytholmes Lane turns right into a no through road, and the main road becomes Victoria Avenue.

  • Continue walking along Victoria Avenue,, and the houses on the right stop just before the road turns to the right.  A stone bridge takes the road over the River Worth and then it starts climbing again.

  • Just before the low wall on the right becomes a tall one, there’s a green figure post pointing up a gynall between the walls.  Turn right here and walk up the steps.

  • The path enters the woodland of Low Wood, and when it emerges follows a field boundary and then a hedgerow on the left, before passing through a kissing gate and then a fairly small gap in the stone wall on to Station Road.

  • Turn right here, and keep to the right-side of the road as this is where the pavement is.  At the bottom of the hill, cross over Station Road just before the level crossing, and explore Oakworth Station.

  • Once you’re finished, head back to Station Road and turn left, cross over the level crossing and follow Mytholmes Lane, as the road becomes, around the bend and underneath the former mill building built over the road.

  • The road turns sharply to the left – and the pavement disappears, so be careful walking around the corner of the building here.  Walk down to the next bend, which is to the left – but cross over and take the little access road to the right – called, confusingly, Mytholmes Lane.  If you see Vale Fold Cottages on your left you are going the right way.

  • Walk to the end of this access road, past the paddock area on the left, and there’s a finger signpost pointing the way through the kissing gate.  Follow this path into the wooded area, as it goes alongside Bridgehouse Beck on the right.

  • After a while, the path crosses Bridgehouse Beck and turns to the left.  Look over the wall here to see the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway and the famous Mytholmes Tunnel – which was part of the paper chase sequence from The Railway Children film.

  • The path raises up to meet Ebor Lane.  Turn left here and follow Ebor Lane as it climbs to meet the B6142 Lees Lane.  Turn right here and follow the road back to Haworth Station.
